Renowned American Indian Artist, Solomon McCombs, will appear in person Saturday, July 4 at the Rappahannock Library, with a showing of his and other contemporary Indian Artist’s work. The public is cordially invited to take advantage of the rare privilege of viewing the paintings depicting the authentic record of American Indian culture, with careful execution of detail and costume authenticity.
Permanent collections of Mr McCombs work are now in many m u s e u m ’ a. and a r t centers throughout the middle west, as well as in the Indian Arts and Crafts Board Collection, Department of the Interior, Washington, D. C. and in the Sporting Gallery, Middleburg, Virginia. Also to be shown is a rare buffalo hide painting of the life of Chief Big Mountain, a Blackfoot chief of Montana around the turn of the century on loan by Mr. William M. Carrigan. The art exhibit may be seen between 10 a. m. and 7 p. m., with Artist McCombs making a short talk about 11:30 and again at about 5:30. Remember too, the Library is sponsoring a food booth that evening where serving will start at 6:30 near the town marker on Gay Street.
