Hart points out that this is not only against the law but is potentially a very dangerous practice. He states that the department, the VPI Extention Service, and industry are now involved jointly in the effort to insist on proper labeling of pesticides bought by consumers. The most frequently found pesticides being distributed in the illegal manner include: creosote wood preservative, pentachlorophenol wood preservative, stock dip and disinfectant, tobacco sucker control solution (including mineral oil), and soil fumigants. “Letters have been sent to pesticide registrants, manufacturers, distributors and dealers, reminding them of the law and requesting their help in stamping out this illegal practice of some retailers," Hart added.
