“COURTHOUSE, CLERK’S OFFICE AND GAOL” — At the October court of 1833 Com missioners William A. Lane, Daniel Mason, and Henry R. Menefee were ordered to have such buildings as a courthouse, clerk’s office and gaol “constructed of brick instead of stone.” The courthouse bell, bought in 1834 for one hundred dollars in borrowed money, is still in use. The old courthouse building looks the same on the outside but within it has been remodeled. There are modern offices for county officials and a new court room.
