A bunch of 126 young bulls on a feed test at Culpeper are making pigs of themselves Entries in this Beef Cattle Improvement Association gain test recently completed the first 56 days of the trial. They are scheduled to finish the test February 25 and will sell at auction in Culpeper on March 12. All bulls will sell with complete performance records available, says A. L. Eller, Jr. of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute animal science department. ' Forty-three Herefords (27 horned and 16 polled)consigned by 14 breeders have a 56 day average daily gain on test of 2.87 pounds, a weight per day of age of 2.52 pounds, and an average type score of 13.3 (just above middle choice)
Eighty Angus consigned by 23 breeders have a 56-day average daily gain of 2.89 pounds, a weight per day of age of 2.47 pounds, and an average type score of 13.2 (just above middle choice.) Three Shorthorn bulls consigned by 2 breeders have a 56-day average daily gain on test of 2.62 pounds, a weight per day of age of 2.68 pounds, and an average type score of 13.7 (just under top choice.)
