Butler, Resident Engineer with the Highway Department, was present at the February meeting of the Board of Supervisors held Friday at the courthouse to report on snow removal on the county highways. Mr. Butler stated that the snow crews concentrated on the two main highways in the county, Route 211 and522 until removal was complete. Chemicals are used on these roads and abrasives where necessary. The hard surfaced secondary roads are taken care of next and lastly the unpaved roads. He explained that when snow plows are seen traveling with the blades up they are being dispatched to a point where needed and plowing as they go delays their getting to point of necessity, or they are spreading chemicals. Mr. Butler said that though we have had only 21 inches of snow, its removal has already cost the county $9 thousand. Two hundred and sixty tons of Chemicals have been used and 230 tons of sand.
