Uses of Concrete
Arrangements have been completed by Rappahannock county agent W. H. Lyne for an open meeting next Monday evening Feb. ,15 to hear a well-informed speaker discuss “The Use of Concrete on The Farm”. The colorslide illustrated program will be held in the Court House in Washington at 7:30 p.m.
The speaker, Mr. Hugh R. Roberts of Richmond, is district farm engineer for the Portland Cement Association in Virginia and North Carolina who has 38 years experience in farm concrete construction. He will discuss what good concrete is and how ready-mixed concrete should be ordered, placed, finished and cured to assure best results.
Farmers, contractors who use concrete, ready-mixed concrete producers, and anyone else who buys, sells, uses or finances concrete for improvements, are invited to this informative “short course".
Mr. Roberts’s program will include the latest methods in paving barnyards, walks, driveways and floors. He will also describe the newer methods of concrete “titt-up” construction for walls of buildings as well as for bunker and trench-type silos. “Everyone wants to get tne most for his money”, commented Mr. Roberts, “so the owner, builder and supplier should all understand the basic requirements of concrete as a material', and the proper way to use it. With this knowledge he can improve the usefulness and extend the life of concrete improvements”.
