The Barter Card Party on Feb. 19th at 7:30 p.m. sponsored by the PTA at the Washington Elementary School promises a night of entertainment for the entire family. Co-chai* men are Paul Nichols of Flint Hill and Mrs. James F. Massie of Amissville. Card games of all types from bridge to crazy eights will be played. The admission is $00 each or a “white elephant" valued at 500 or more. A prize will be awarded at each table and home baked products and other refreshments will be on sale. There will be a special room for children’s activities with organized supervision. The popular card game in George Washington’s day was “loo” which was a fore runner of whist and bridge and among his other interests were auctions and lotteries; so it seems most fitting that the highlight of the eveing will be a Chinese Auction offering for sale the barter products (whiteelephants). A Chinese Auction differs from a regular auction in that each bidder pays the amount that he bids but the last bidder still gets the item. This makes it mighty nice for the PTA and should prove quite interesting to those attending. Reservations for tables should be made to Mrs. Annie A. Cook at Washington Elementary School phone #6753348 by noon Thursday, Feb. 18th, so arrangements can be made for the game of your choice. This is an excellent way to entertain bridge groups families and friends and at the same time benefit the PTA. Reservations are not necessary for you to come only to insure that your table will be ready on your arrival.
