The Annual Dog Mart, spon sored by the Fredericksburglappahannock Chapter of The zaak Walton League of Ameri ;a, Saturday, October 2, 1965. rhe mart revives a custom vhich dates back to 1698, when he colonists and the Panunkey Indians were traders, rhe white man coveted the valuable furs, gold and other articles of the Indians. The Indians coveted the exceptionally fine hunting dogs of the vhite men. As a result the log mart started. This is the anly time in the history of nan that he has laid down his juns for dogs. The Dog Mart begins with a aarade through the downtown section of the city at 10:00 a.m. The parade consists of aeople and their dogs of all ages, sizes and descriptions, [t ends at Maury School Stadiam where the Dog Auction is neld. This is the unique fea:ure of the mart. Owners may lave their dogs sold at no cost, and prices range from 50C to $100. There will be indian dances by Pamunkey Indians in full regalia, and sale of handicraft nade by Indians; fox horn blowing contest, old time fid dlers contest, bow and arrow contests, k-nine exhibition hog calling contest and other events.
