Look for some further downward adjustments in corn prices as movement of new corn becomes heavy within the next few weeks. The September 1 forecast of the national corn crop is for a record 4.1 billion bushels up 17 per cent from last year's short crop. However, the low October 1 carryover, which is expected to be down 27 per cent from last year, provides a total U. S. supply picture of 5.2 billion bushels—up 4 per cent from 1964 but 4 per cent below the five-year aver age. Virginia’s crop is predicted to be 36.9 million bushels--31 per cent up from last year and 32 per cent above the five-year average, with a record high yield per acre of 66 bushels. Prices last week for No. 2 yellow shelled corn were $1.10 - $1.15 in the Northern Neck, $1.18 - $1.22 at Norfolk, $1.38 -$1.42 in the Shenandoah Valley, $1.17 at Richmond and $1.32 1/2 - $1.32 3/4 at Chica go. During the approaching harvesting season soybean prices are expected to be close to the support level. Based on the September 1 forecast U. S. production will reach a record high of 867 million bushels--up 24 per cent from last year and 38 per cent above the five-year average. When the October 1 carryover of old beans, which is expected to be about 30 million bushels is taken into consideration, the total U. S. supply picture becomes 897
