are necessary on the product’s labeling; Data on test animals showing that an acceptable safety margin exists between dosages causing detectable toxic effects and the dosages recoim mended for effective use; and Data based on experience showing that humans and/or animals will not be injured by the chemical under any reasonably foreseeable circumstances.

(JSDA will not permit a limited claim for nontoxicity on the label of any product required by federal regulations to bear precautionary statements based on toxicity, says Miss Thomas. Labels bearing nontoxicity claims, she explains, must also meet requirements designed to prevent a misleading appearance. These requirenents include printing the claim in type of a size and style bearing treasonable relationship to other print on he label, keeping within maximum limits on type sizes set forth by USDA, and rest ric ting repetition of the claim on product labeling.
