1. Obtain a Soil Sample. Good seed yields come from fields with a soil pH of 6.0 to 6.5 and testing ^high" in phosphate and potash. For best results phosphate and potash should be applied in the fall; this is a vital part of a fertilization program. 2. Topdress Fields with Nitrogen. Use 50-60 pounds actual nitrogen per acre as soon as possible this spring. Some of this may have been applied last fall. 3. Spray Fields for Weeds. Use 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of 2, 4-D ester per acre for onion and broadleaf weed control. This spray should be applied as soon as possible on a day when the temperature will be 60 degrees or higher for 3 hours. Do not delay spraying until orchard grass begins good growth—this• may cause some reduction in seed yield.
