Waller p. Jones, a member and past president of the Culpeper Mid-Day Lions, has announced his candidacy for the office of governor of District 24-A of Lions International. As a Lion. the^41-year-old gubernatorial ^candidate has served as deputy district governor, district membership chairman, state membership chairman, zone chairman and has received the Extension award for helping to establish the Remington Lions Club. Jones served in the U. S. Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. In Culpeper, Jones has been a member of the Methodist Church and a Sunday School teacher. He has served on the Board of Stewards. Jones is a past director of the Chamber of Commerce and a past president of the Retail Merchants Association. He was vice-president of the PTA and an associate member of the Jaycees. A spokesman for the Culpeper Mid-Day Lions said Jones has a perfect attendance record and has been a key member of the organization. Jones has been a Culpeperite since 1951 when he became manager of Lerner’s Department. Store. Natives of Wytheville, the Jones have five children, Jimmy 17, twins, Ronoie and Donnie, 10, Debby, 7, and David, 5.
