[Hwy. Tours Set Week

i | Many Virginians will have an opportunity for first-hand ; looks at State Highway Department operations when a number of the agency’s field offices hold open houses and tours during the week of September 24. The occasion will be the observance of National Highway Week, held annually throughout the nation by organizations interested in highway development.
In Virginia, the State High way Commission has endorsed the observance in a resolution which also invited citizens‘to consider during this period the importance of modern highways in their business and leisure time activities.” The Commission noted that the observance is a timely one for Virginia, since the State is currently engaged in a nineyear program of highway improvements which envisions completion of the interstate and arterial networks, and basic improvements to the urban, secondary and regular primary systems. Currently, highway work under contract in the State totals 5332,887, 135. and is providing 595 miles of new construction or improvements toolder sections.
