Deadline Nears
The approaching election of
ASC community committees) for farm program administration in Rappahannock County was announced today by H. S. Barksdale, Chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, He called particular attention to the fact that the community icommittee elections this year are a little earlier than in former years. They are being held during the third week in September in all agricultural communities throughout the Nation in order to increase the awareness of this important farm-program function on eligible voters.
The farmer-committee system is a unique means of administering national agricultural programs and policies. The community committees assist the ASC county committee in administering the price support, acreage diversion, agricultural conservation, and other farm-action programs in the county; they are particularly responsible for keeping their neighbors informed about the programs. The county committee supervises the ASCS county office and is responsible for the administration of the various programs. Voting will be by mail, the Chairman explained, and ballots are being sent to each known eligible voter. In case eligible voters fail to receive a ballot through the mail, the county office should be contracted to provide one.
