Under the new program, VA will issue an identification card to veterans who require this type of treatment, and each patient will be permitted to select a doctor of his choice for treatment of the medical condition stated on his card. Both the veteran and the doctor also benefit by the new plan. The veteran can visit the doctor of his choice a s often a 8 the doctor considers necessary. The doctor is relieved of much of the paper work associated with theold system, Instead of preparing a medical report and a claim form, he merely files an itemized bill on his own letterhead just as he does for his other patients. Medical reports to the VA are filed by the doctor only when there is a significant change in the veteranfs service connected condition.
