Had a good visit with Randall Updike this morning. Randall had just sold ten head of lambs that averaged 104 lbs for $417. Know I looked doubtful when he told me this for Randall called the Farmers Livestock Exchange in Winchester and sure enough they had sold a pen of 80 to 90 head of Blue O’s for .4010 per lb.
If there ever was a time that it would pay to creep feed lambs that time is now. If you move the >heep out on pasture, move the lamb creep with them. Shear ewes before the weather turns hot. Keep ewes cool and milking well. Anything you can do to keep lambs gaining and get them off to market will mean increased profit. Last year lamb prices started dropping off a cent a pound every week during the latter part of May and this is usually the trend. If you are in the market for replacement ewes, suggest you place your order early. Yearling ewes will be in short supply this year.
Peas are up in the jail house garden and most gardens are about as free of weeds as they ever will be this year. If you are a garden enthusiast, could be you would find the V. P.
