men like Charles Finney and Dwight Moody, and the Billy Sunday campaigns of the early 1900’s are probably the most significant. But many other less publicized movements have played a great part in the shaping of our country. Many thousands of local church meetings and revivals have had a great influence.
Today we sense a deep need for spiritual renewal in the land. Alcoholism, immorality, pornography, nudity, divorces, drug addiction, suicides, rioting, crime, and discontentment are all on the increase. And many who do not get involved too greatly in these things lack a real purpose in life.
These are symptoms of our need of revival. We need a purpose for living. This is more than to make a living. A great Christian educator once said, “We do not emphasize teaching students how to make a living. We teach them how to live and they are always able to make a living.”
We need revival today. There is a great spiritual need that will not be met unless enough people begin to realize the truth of the words of Jesus, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4)
