It might be observed, that high on the list of community services, the National Ruritan Club has placed its recognition of the Rural Church. The Amissville Chapter, in turn included in its objectives, donations to the Sunday Schools of local churches, an invitation to the clergy to attend meetings, an offer to send a minister to a Rural Minister’s Conference and to attend church services in a body. During an era of revolt and a time of “anti-establishment”, amid scenes of protest against secular education, it may be presumed that in the not too distant future - the church can expect to be attacked by those organizations of defeat and destruction.
At the Yalta Conference, following World War II, it was reported that Franklin D. Roosevelt chided Joseph Stalin on the loss of the freedom of worship in Russia. To which Stalin immediately replied, why should he (Roosevelt) worry about religion in Russia when only 25% of the people attended church in the United States.
Thus by this humble action of the Amissville Ruritan Club one receives a refreshming reminder that a liberty must be cherished, that a freedom must be exercised and defended, and that through the high resolve and good example of this group, the community of Amissville can stand strong and be proud.
