Road Hearing Feb 17
A public hearing on the location and design of a new bridge across the Rappahannock River at the Fauquler-Rappahannock County line will be held at 10 a.m. February 17 in the Trough Hill Baptist Church on VA 647 just west of the intersection with VA 645 in Fauquier County.
Maps, drawings and other pertinent information are available for public inspection and copying in the Warrenton Residency office of the Virginia Department of Highways
Written statements and other exhibits relative to the proposed project may be presented in place of or in addition to oral statements at the combined location and design public hearing.
Such written statements and exhibits also may be submitted to the Department of Highways up to 10 days after the hearing.
Tentative schedules for right-of-way acquisition and construction will be discussed at the hearing.
The proposed project would replace a one-lane truss bridge over the river on VA 647 with a beam-span, concrete deck structure. Minor relocations of the approaches would be necessary for the project, total length of which is just over two-tenths of a mile.
The pavement would be widened to 18 feet from the present 12, and the present bridge’s width of 10V4 feet would »jae improved to 18 feet of ’pavement on a 28-foot clear roadway, permitting two lanes.
The proposed new bridge, with its 20-ton capacity, could be wed by heavy trucks that cannot use the present bridge, which has an eight-ton limit.
The Highway Department hopes to be able to replace several limited-capacity bridges across the Rappahannock River over the next decade.
Organizational Meet
For Brownie Scouts
There will be an organizational meeting for all parents interested in having their daughters become Brownie Girl Scouts (grades 2 and 3) on February 5, 1970 at 3:30 p.m. in the Rappahannock Elementary School auditorium. Miss Ellen *V. Swope, Field Director, for the Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council will be present to answer questions and explain registration procedures.
