The Amissville Ruritan Club rolled into the first year of the new decade with an impressive program of projects designed to help both county and community. Outstanding was the dub’s approval of a project to provide a warning light for the Ami8sville Fire Department, a facility long needed for the safety of both men and equipment. A dozen other objectives constituted the business which followed a dinner served by the Auxiliary of the Amissville Fire Dept, on last Wednesday.
Pres. Nelson Burner indicated that this was the last of many dinners served by the Auxiliary and called for special recognition of the years of kindness during which they had provided dinners quarterly. The ladies were given an enthusiastic applause and the appreciation of the membership. During the roll call by Sec’y Jerry Curtis a request was presented by several unidentified persons for a change of name.
It has been the long standing policy for each member to answer to an alias or pseudo name - thus “Crap Shooter” is the name of a very exemplary churchman. “Double Joint” is a character so named possibly because of an acrobatic ability or a law hazard in-, need of special handcuffs. There is “Good Looking” whose appearance before a clock might not actually stop it but it would have a definite tendency to - slow it. Anyway, the gentlemen who called for the attention of the chair, requested the name of “Coon Hunter” be changed to “Blind Horse”. The chair failed to Moofinizi the meivoT the icaueit and the matter was dropped summarily to lie unexplained.
During the October meeting which coincided with the exhibition termed as the October 25 Moratorium, the Club passed a resolution backing Pres. Nixon’s “present Vietnam policy toward an honorable peace”. Vice-Pres. Edw. Lawrence read replies from Senators Harry Byrd, Jr. and William 0. Spong, Jr. and Representative John Marsh, who acknowledged the receipt of copies of this resolution as sent to the President and heartily approved the Club’s positidh.
Keeping in step with the rising cost of food, raw products and the 6% plus increase in the cost of living the Club voted to advance the annual dues to $24.00. This increase of $4.00 will reflect a higher price per dinner and an increased revenue to those other civic minded clubs, which month after month have graciously contributed to holding the men
