Chief Forest Warden Raymond M. Johnson,'right, and Norman Grimsley who is forest fire lookout tower man, discuss the effects of snow in relation to forest fire danger. Both have been involved in controlling forest fires in Rappahannock County for many years, and it is their considered opinion that the recent snow is the best fire prevention available. Actually, a few heavy snows in the winter months will decrease the danger of serious spring fires by compressing the leaf litter and other fine fuels closer to the ground.
