Two Found Guilty In Park Violations
Two men, Freddie Cantrell, 24, of 166 Garrison Road, Manassas, and Carl Cantrell, 30, of 139 Bull Run Road, Manassas, were found guilty of hunting in Shenandoah National Park by United States Commissioner Isaac R. Dovel, Jr., and fined two hundred dollars each. The Cantrell brothers were observed by Sergeant Anthony Rogers of the D. C. Metropolitan Police Department shooting at deer in Shenandoah National Park from Highway 211 near Panorama. Park Rangers were notified and the violators were located by a license number supplied by Sgt. Rogers. Investigation of the scene disclosed a dead doe lying in the woods.
Although poaching activity appears to be down in the Park this year, Supt. Hoskins reports this is not the first doe found shot in the Park this fall; there have been several others. Ranger patrols have been greatly intensified and lengthened since the opening of deer season. So far this season, nine hunters have appeared before the United States Commissioners for hunting in the Park of illegal possession of
