Ivan F. Vannoy
Ivan F. Vannoy, 64, died at his home in Alexandria, Va. on Thursday, January 22, 1970. He was a staff supervisor with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company and had twice been awarded the Vail Bell Medal, the phone company’s highest award for public service beyond the call of duty.
His first medal was in recognition for his efforts in maintaining telephone service by operating a switchboard in Gore, Va. in 1930 during a major Are. The second came after the rescue of a boy who had fallen into the Potomac River from a wharf in Alexandria in 1937. Mr. Vannoy was a native of Centreville, Iowa and received a degree in electrical engineering from West Virginia University in 1929. At this time he joined C&P and in 1961 became staff supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Jenkins Vannoy; a daughter Mrs. Robert Dartnell of Parkersburg, W. Va.; a brother Paul of Huntington, W. Va., and two sisters, Mrs. Janet Riley of Huntington and Mrs. Elizabeth Patterson of Batavia, N.Y. A funeral service was held Saturday at the funeral home chapel in Alexandria with full Masonic rites and interment was in the Washington Masonic Cemetery, Washington, Va.

Herbert Foster attended the meeting this week of the Virginia Horticultural Society held at Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke. The Rev. and Mrs. James Grimmer and daughter Susan of
Campbell. Mr. Grimmer was guest speaker Sunday at the Sperryville and Willis Chapel services.
The W.S.C.S. met Monday, January 19 at the home of Mrs. Paul Miller with 10 present.
