Hunting is permitted during the proper seasons on George Washington National Forest but is not permitted at any time in Shenandoah National Park.
Supt. Hoskins states it would be very helpful when giving advice or directions to inquiring hunters to make certain they understand hunting is not permitted) in the Park. It will help the Park and may save the hunter from an expensive mistake.

What’s Your Favorite Meat?
Just about everyone is concerned about “image” these days — his own personal image, his company’s image, his family’s image, etc. But have you ever thought of meat as having an image?
Don Long, economist at Virginia Tech says it does, since meat serves as the focal point of meal planning and meal evaluation. He says you choose the meat and then the “accessories.” You tend to rate how good a meal was by how good the meat was. To determine just what various homemakers’ opinions are on particular meats, the U. S. Department of Agriculture recently conducted a survey on the subject. To say the least, these results were interesting, said Long. They shed a lot of light on how we look at various meats, when we would serve them, their favorite points, and their less desirable characteristics. Beef was the favorite and had the most favorable image. It’s the meat we eat most frequently and the one we are most likely to serve for prestige purposes, although oven roasts drew preference over steaks for serving at guest meals. Chicken ran a good second to beef in terms of favorite opinion. Cured pork, especially ham, also had quite a favorable image. It’s a meat we’ll eat cold and fairly often. It considers strongly is a prestige meat. Oh the other hand, fresh pork, projected a less favorable Image. Some are likely to think it is hard to digest, maybe unsafe, or has more waste and poorer keeping quality. Of course, all of these are opinions or “images” of various meats. Some may be correct, other wrong. But each of us can check our own opinions, see how they compare with other peoples’ and make our own evaluations.
