Injuries were slight in four traffic crashes reported on Rappahannock roads in the past week. Trooper J. B, Willis investigated the following crashes.
August 20 at 10:45 p.m. a mile and three tenths east of Washington, Va. on Route 211 a single vehicle accident involved Donn Cahnning Railey of Brandon, Fla. Railey ran off the right of the road, veered across the highway and struck the bank on the left. He sustained lacerations of the forehead.
Damage to the 1970 Ford he was driving was estimated at $600 and Railey was charged with reckless driving.
In Amissville Saturday morning a 1967 Plymouth operated by Joseph Leslie Hosman of New Boston, Texas was declared a total loss after striking a rock embankment but the driver was unhurt.
Hosman started to pass a 1966 Pontiac operated by Randle Lee Cole of Crownsville, Md. As Hosman started around the Cole car, Cole also attempted to pass another vehicle in front of him and the Hosman car was forced off the road and into the bank. Cole was charged with improper passing.
Sunday morning in Amissville on Route 211, Mrs. Mary Lee Poe operating, a 65 Ford was struck by another car as she stopped to make a left turn off the highway. A 1970 Ford pickup owned and operated by W. F. Bear Jr. of Amissville, approached from the rear, applied his brakes, skidded into the ditch, spun around in the road and struck the Poe vehicle. Bear was cited for failing, to maintain control of his vehicle.
