Buy Now, Eat Later!
This slogan, wisely applied may mean either much relief to your food budget, or more eating satisfaction for your food dollars. There are several ways you may
apply the slogan to your food1 buying and planning. Seasonal buying and quantity are two which come to mind. In seasonal buying, the “Buy Now, Eat Later,” slogan works this way. Many foods have a definite seasonal pattern of supply and prices. Ordinarily you can expect that prices are best when supplies are largest. The same thing is true for quality. Obviously, if the food is such that you can buy it now, when the supplies are largest, and if the food can be stored, it makes economic sense to do so. You buy now, you eat later.
Meats present a good example of this kind of product. During the fall and early winter months, you usually find pork at its peak supply and more attractive prices. Beef supplies peak during later summer and early fall. If you have a home freezer with space, you have an opportunity to practice some “buy now, eat later."
