Joseph Carter of Sperryville and Takoma Park, Md. gave ^ demonstration of hand molding pottery at a meeting of students of Mrs. Woodrow Bennett, on Thursday, August 20. Mr. Carter, a former instructor at the Corcoran Art Gallery, included demonstrations in Dynamic Symmetry, pot shaping from slabs and “pancakes” and several decorative effects including Mishma, a Korean method of inlay, and 3-dimensional designs made from natural flower impressions. Mr. Carter introduced members of the Rappahannock Arts and Crafts Group to their first experiences with clay during a workshop in 1965. After that series of lessons, Mrs. Bennett continued with clay work, purchased a kiln and established a ceramics business. Her business has grown so that now she fills orders to many states and operates a studio shop at her home in Boston, Va. on highway 522. She has 14 students enrolled in classes this summer.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Brown were dinner guests Saturday night of Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor in Culpeper. Robert Bruce of Front Royal was a Sunday guest in the BtoWnhdrfie.

Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Bolyard and family of Solon, Ohio arrived Sunday for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Nethers.

J. Rodes Brown, Jr. and family of Tazewell who are houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Rodes Brown, Sr. were guests for several days this week of Mrs. A. Paul Thompson in Fork Union while Mr. Thompson was on a visit to Missouri.

Mrs. George W. Hawkins visited her mother, Mrs. G. M. Golden in Front Royal Monday and was a luncheon guest of her sister, Mrs. J. Paul Jones.

Mrs. Robert W. Brown spent the weekend in Springfield with her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Butler and daughter Susan.

Mrs. Mike Gardner of Arlington was a Friday overnight guest of her grandmother Mrs. Della B. Howard. Mrs. Howard returned with her for a weeks visit with her grandson Joe Aylor.

“Missy” Peyton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Peyton, Jr. of Falls Church spent last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Dodson. She returned home Sunday with her grandmother who will visit with them this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Newman Birch of Alexandria were guests Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Aylor. Her recent guests were Mrs. Mary Lee Goff of Glen Bumie, Md. and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hawkins of Winchester.
