Two men were convicted in Rappahannock County Court Tuesday afternoon on charges of false pretense larceny. Morris Riley, 65, of Camden, Ark. and Phillip Squire Cullom, 26, of Port Royal were each fined $75 and court costs of $7.75 and given a jail sentence of 90 days, suspended on good behavior for one year.
These charges resulted after the pair charged Clyde E. Beckwith of Castleton $80 for pumping out a septic tank. They had represented themselves as reliable septic tank cleaners, using the name of a reputable company in an adjoining town. After giving them a check, Mr. Beckwith called the Culpeper firm named and inquired about the service and the price, thereupon discovering the fraud. The tank had not been cleaned ; indeed, it was later discovered they did not even have a pump on the truck.
The two men were apprehended in Culpeper and detained until Sheriff C. K. Estes arrived with warrants for their arrest. They were held in
