Mrs. Perle Coffey Piedmont District SperryviUe, Va.
Dear Madam,
I must apologize to you - foi taking a week to reply to youi letter. Since you attempted to go over my head and contacted Mr. Green instead of me, the delay was unavoidable.
My statement which you questioned was factual; everyone in the SperryviUe delegation did leave the Supervisors’ meeting, however one lady did return, I presume to ride home with her husband, a county official who most always attends the meetings.
I was kind in my original assessment of the proceedings concerning that meeting. I think It is unfortunate that your representative, endowed with the many virtues extolled by you, allowed the plan, hastily contrived to conform with the absence of a member, to develop. If she had a change in her schedule, I should think it proper for her to go to her colleagues and discuss the matter. If it does not suit me to print the newspaper on Wednesday, I’ll go tell Mr. Green, I wouldn’t send you. One item of legislation was tabled for two meetings awaiting Mrs. Coates’ presence, and she had made no effort to contact the Board, to explain her absences, or make any arrangements to rectify the situation. I still fail to grasp the feasibility of inconveniencing a dozen or more people to benefit one; however, I’ll look forward to seeing all of you at the Saturday meetings.
