“The Shade,” one of Rappahannock's oldest houses will be open in October for the annual house tour and dried arrangement sale sponsored by the Episcopal Churchwomen of Bromfield Parish. All hardware in the house is original and the doors are of native pine, made on the place. There is a fireplace in every room. At one time this was almost a self-sustaining plantation with a cobbler's shop, brick kiln, blacksmith shop, tannery, weaving house and ice house. The house tour is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18.
