League’s opposition to the Potomac Edison project was given by John J. Dwyer, Washington, D. C. attorney and parttime Rappahannock resident who heads up the legal committee for the League. “The power company isn’t any closer to building the line than it was a year ago,” he told the group and then predicted that regardless of the ruling of the Board of Zoning Appeals the losing side would take the matter to the circuit court. The League is making its case on the grounds that the line is not a necessity to the county, an issue, he said, the power company has tried to avoid. “There are better ways of providing electricity for the county,” he said, “ways which will not be such a detriment to its tax base, its land and its scenic value.”
Hiram Zigler of the American Farm Bureau Federation spoke to the gathering on planning for better land use. He described the importance of land planning and zoning to a community and said that many planning commissions are appointing environmental impact committees to advise them since this is one of the most important aspects of land planning.
At the business meeting of the League, Mr. Irwin, invited everyone in the area to participate at the committee level to help carry out the purpose of -the League which is expressed its constitution as “to provide an effective and continuing coordinating structure in working for the protection and conservation and appreciation of Rappahannock County’s natural and historic resources, as related to the total environment, through a program of cooperative action, for the cultural, scientific,
