According to the latest figures released by the Health Insurance Institute, the average outlay per baby, exclusive of medical dnd hospital expenditures, is about $700, with $517 of it for baby clothes and equipment and the rest for maternity clothes. This amount would be reduced by gifts from relatives and friends and by articles, if available, used by an earlier child. Applying this average cost to Rappahannock County’s annual baby crop, it takes about $67,000 a year to provide these arrivals with the necessary supplies and equipment.
