Mr. and Mrs. James Leake and son, Daren were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Markwood Butler and son Mark in Manassas. Their daughter Pam, who spent last week with the Butlers, returned home with them on Sunday. „ Jane Kilby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kilby left Wednesday to enter her second year at Radford College, Radford. Recent weekend guests of the Kilbys were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lowery of Richmond. Mr. and Mrs. Ranny Aylor and Mrs. F. D. Coffey, Jr. were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nethers in Flint Hill. David Lyne and Preston Fray of Culpeper spent the weekend at Nags Head, N.C. Janet Yates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Yates left Sunday to enter her junior year at Madison College, Harrisonburg. Mrs. E. A. Campbell is a patient in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Harris of Huntly, Va., have returned from a recent conference on building a more humane future through “alternative life styles.” Held at a rural camp near Gettysburg, Pa., the conference offered speakers and discussion groups emphasizing personal independence: from the wage system, government, school systems and the market place. What most of the speakers were for, was a more organic, integrated life than is now lived by most Americans. Particular attention was paid to natural foods, homesteading, free access to the land, and new forms of community.
Sponsored by the Heathcote School of Living, Freeland, Md., the conference featured a presentation by the school’s founder, Dr. Ralph Borsodi, decentralist economist whose book, “Flight from the City” was popular during the Depression, and is now being reissued.
