IN ECCLESIASTES 3:1 and 4 we find these words, “For everything there is an appointed time: there is a time to mourn and a time to dance.” The word everything would mean GOOD things and so-called bad things.
Since the Bible was written about Oriental people it is assumed that their dances were Oriental dances. Does it necessarily follow that singing groups, while singing sacred songs, should go into physical contortions that titilate the erotic nature of the listeners; is it a GOOD thing?
There was another group that sang “Peace in the Valley.” They stood there with shining eyes and blending voices that created divine harmonies that vibrated in my ears, filtered down into my heart and brought tears to my eyes. To me, that was a GOOD thing.
Peace, where ever it is found, would be a GOOD thing, but I’ve never thought of heaven as being in a valley; rather in a place “high and lifted • up. ”1 recall asking my old black mammy, Ret, why the clouds were rimmed with gold. She answered; “Why chil’ that’s God’s heaven shinin’ through.” To my childish mind, and even now, that was a GOOD thing. — J.B.P.
