More than a normal number of white tailed deer in Eastern Virginia died during the last half of 1971. And wildlife experts are not yet certain of the cause.
A possible cause, Epizootic hemorrhagic disease, received some newspaper coverage and has resulted in concern by farmers over whether the disease can be transmitted to 5their livestock.
“Epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) may or may not have caused the aboveaverage loss. But the presence of the virus disease in Virginia has not been confirmed,” declared Dr. G. A. Maclnnis, a Virginia Tech Extension veterinarian and a professor of veterinary science.
