Another law mentioned by Colonel Burgess is one reducing the mandatory license suspension upon a conviction of driving when intoxicated from one year to six months,with courts having the power to increase the suspension time up to a year. He said this was brought about by reluctance of juries to convict when the accused person depended upon his license for his livelihood. The three year suspension upon a second conviction will remain mandatory when this law becomes effective, also on July 1, he said.
Use of the breath test for the final determination^ will not be authorized until January 1, 1973. □
