Tired of the “passive management” of the town by the men who failed to replace burned out streetlights, or keep the grass cut along the streets — and, in addition, allowed dogs to run loose in the town, creating a nuisance — the ladies did something about it.
They put themselves in office,- though the whole idea was not entirely their own. The late B. M. Miller, at that time trial justice for the county, made the suggestion which caught on quickly.
