Recommended wheat varrieties for this Fail are Arthur, McNair 4823, Coker 68-15, Blueboy and Redcoat according to Bob Tudor, Fauquier Extension Agent.
Disease problems continued to plague wheat fields this past Spring. No one variety seems to stand out as being best, he said.
Arthur and Coker 68-15 are early maturing and Blueboy and McNair 4823 are medium maturing.
“It appears that a new variety, Abe will be recommended in the Fall of 1974. Redcoat will not be recommended to farmers after this year,” said Tudor.
Several high yielding lines of wheat will be planted this Fall for seed increase purposes at the Foundation Seed Farm at Amelia. □
