wood, the son of the late Aubrey and Robert Eliza Stringfellow Bowie. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Reid Bowie and two sisters Miss Lucy Catherine Bowie and Miss Burma Bowie, all of Culpeper. He was a member of the Washington Baptist Church, Washington, Va. and it was here that he established the Rappahannock News in 1949 and was publisher until 1956.
He was an active member of the Masonic Fraternity and in addition to being a member and Past Master of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 78, he was Past Master of Fairfax Lodge No. 43, Past High Priest Fairfax Royal Arch Chapter No. 13, Past Commander of Culpeper Commandry No. 25, Past Patron Order of Eastern Star No. 79 and Past Associate Guardian Bethel No. 61 Jobs Daughters. Mr. Bowie was the recipient of the Knight York Cross of Honor, an honorary degree of Masonry.
Pallbearers were Thomas O’Halloran, J. William Clarke, Marshall Gayheart Jr., William G. Mitchell, Angus M. Green, H. Powell Button, William Aylor, Francis Somerville and Clark Glass.□
