3,557 deer
The Virginia Game Commission’s Assistant Law Enforcement Chief , R. S. Purks, today announced that a total of 5,725 deer were lost to sportsmen in Virginia during 1973 from a variety of miscellaneous causes.
Included in the total were 3,557 deer reported killed by automobile, 1,030 were the results of illegal kills, 98 were killed by dogs, 17 were killed by train and the remainder were lost for a variety of other reasons.
