Planning District Commission received the grant they were required to accept the aging plan when it was completed. The proposed Aging Agency is the culmination of the plan, explained Helsel. So the Planning District Commissioners have to support the agency plan.
THERE WAS another catch. A number of projects in the district are already receiving federal aging funds. The Fauquier Community Action Program Senior Citizen Transporation Program and lunch program receive such federal funding. Helsel said that if the Aging Agency is not established the federal government will cut off funding to these popular programs. If that happens the County Supervisors will probably be asked to fund these programs themselves, argued Helsel.
Helsel also wanted to discount any possible feelings among the Planning District Commissioners that he was pushing for the Aging Agency because he wanted the job
