A DINNER honoring retiring Trooper, W. A. Buntin of Washington, was held Saturday evening at the Coach and Caverns in Luray given by fellow members oT Area 14 of the Second Division of the Virginia Department of State Police. Approximately 180 people were present to extend best wishes to him.
Trooper Buntin has served with the V.S.P. for over 29 years, all of which has been in Rappahannock He is a native of Halifax County.
In addition to his wife and daughter, local citizens and fellow workers, Trooper Buntin was joined by his family for the event, a brother and two sisters.
The dinner reservations provided also for gifts from those attending which had been selected by co-workers and included a jigsaw, a bench vise, a sander and wood rasp. Mrs. Buntin was given a framed color photograph of her husband in full uniform, also.
TROOPER R. A. Baines, on behalf of Johnny Beaver and Trooper R. D. Irvine of Luray, and himself, presented Mr. Buntin a Smith and Wesson .38 calbre pistol which was engraved with his name and dates of service.
Captain Corvello and Sgt. Brown of the Virginia Department of State Police and Trooper J. B. Willis who formerly served in Rappahannock each made comments. Trooper D. I. Peer was Master of Ceremonies for the dinner.
