quier Supervisors and the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission have supported state control of the two rivers if designated as “scenic.”
The COR hasn’t made any recommendations yet on how the two proposed scenic rivers would be controlled and administered. The COR staff working on the study has met twice with citizens and elected officials on an advisory committee to work this out. No decisions have been reached. Fauquier Supervisor Chairman James Austin is on the advisory committee.
At the Culpeper meeting, a member of the Rappahannock (County) League for Environmental Protection asked why the Rappahannock River isn’t being studied above Remington. Blackmore said the portions under study are taking all the COR’s time. Hopefully, other portions of the river can be studied at a later date. Fauquier County has tentative plans to build a dam on the Rappahannock River on the unstudied portion near Waterloo.
