The survey includes the following 15-minute quadrangles: Columbia, Dillwyn, Fredericks Hall, Glenora, Gordonsville, Lakeside Village, Powhatan, Rapidan and Sperryville. A gamma-ray spectrometer was used that recorded the total count as well as individual responses for uranium, thorium, and potassium. The survey was flown at 500 feet above ground level in east-west flight lines that were one-half mile apart. ‘ The radioactivity data is presented in the form of total-count contour maps, with a contour interval of 50 and 100 counts per second. Individual anomalously high count areas are labeled as to the major element, that is, uranium, thorium, or potassium, that caused the high counts.
