ACCOUNTANT Walter Cox recommended that the county spend part of their federal revenue sharing allotment for capital outlay for the school system. A total of $116, 000 of the revenue sharing funds must be spent by June of 1976, or future revenue sharing grants to Rappahannock would be cut, Cox said.
Cox also suggested that the Supervisors could save the county some money by shifting several expenditures out of the general fund into revenue sharing, which the Supervisors agreed to. But that announcement didn’t come until after a brief “executive session” for the Board of Supervisors.
The bookkeeping change wasn’t the announced reason for the closed door session. Chairman Pete Luke suggested that the board meet alone to discuss cuts in the school board budget, specifically salary cuts. It needed to be in closed session because they’d be discussing the salary cuts by name, Luke said.
