Gatewood dies

James Ralph Gatewood, 21, of Washington was fatally wounded Sunday night at Pine Knot Inn on Route 211 west of Washington. He died of a gunshot wound near his heart which resulted from an arguement in .the parking lot of the tavern, according to Trooper R. A. Baines. The murder weapon was a .22 caliber pistol, he said.
Confessing to and charged with the slaying is Maurice Kelly Ausberry of Flint Hill. He is being detained in Fauquier Jail, Warrenton on $10,000 bond, said Baines. The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. and Gatewood was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by the Washington Rescue Squad. □
