Superintendent Jacobsen reports that the increasing occurrence of criminal activity has not bypassed Shenandoah National Park. During this past year the Park Rangers, who function as the Federal police force within the Park, investigated 116 Part I Offenses, including cases of rape, larceny, burglary, assault, breaking and entering, and other felonious activities normally associated with metropolitan life.
Rangers, who must be skilled in law enforcement, as well as knowledgeable about forestry and wildlife management, found themselves investigating 132 automobile accidents and issuing over 750 court summons for various types of law violations during 1975.
