THE USDA has estimated that four billion lids will be available for use this season, more than double the supply available for use during last year’s canning season.
‘‘Some manufacturers’ representatives told us recently they suspect a possible surplus of regular size lids sometime this summer, but they remain extremely cautious,” said Carbaugh. “All of the traditional manufacturers have expanded their lid production capacities for this year, and additional manufacturers are marketing lids across the nation. ”□
