for appriximately 330,000 public school sudents during 1975-76 showed few changes from the previous year, but maintained an improvement
which occured between 1973-75. In all categories tested , average achievement scores measured by the Science Research Associates (SRA) achievement tests equalled or exceeded ability scores as measured by the Short Test of Educational Ability (STEA).
Grades four, six, eight and eleven were tested in reading, language arts, mathematics concepts and computation, social studies and science. Loudoun students scored higher than the state average in 27 areas, ranking in the same percentile as the state norm in three categories.
Fauquier students scored higher in eleven catagories, lower in nine and ranked in the same percentile in ten. Clarke students ranked lower than the average state percentile in 15 areas, higher in six and the same in nine. Students in Rappahannock County ranked lower than the state norm in 21 areas, the same in six, and higher in three.
