HIGHWAY litter clean-up costs in Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Rappahannock were $74, 221.11 during 1974-75, according to figures released by the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation. lliis accounted for approximately 30 per cent of the Culpeper District total of $254, 292.97. The total amount spent by the state for clean-up along primary, secondary and interstate roads was $1,285,247.91.
C. O. Leigh, the department’s state maintenance engineer, said the clean-up job will take on added significance this year because the state is getting ready for the millions of tourists expected to visit Virginia’s historic and scenic places during the nation’s Independence Bicentennial year. The statewide campaign is already well under way with, “Spruce Up Virginia, Company’s Coming’’ as the theme.
